Military Service Summary
David Michael Smith started out as a E-1 Private and in less than 3 years became an E-5 SGT (Sergeant). He began serving his 4 years on Active duty by completing basic training (boot camp) at Ft. Jackson South Carolina. Upon completion of basic training David Michael Smith went onto his Avanced Individual Training at Ft. Gordon in Augusta Georgia. Upon completion of AIT he arrived at his first duty station at Ft. Lewis near Seattle Washington. After some time stationed there the unit reflagged and moved to Vilseck Germany. While stationed at his unit in Germany the unit deployed to Kuwait for about a month. After a month in Kuwait the Unit Deployed to Baghdad Iraq near Baqhdad International Airport. After 10 months in Baghdad the unit moved north east of Baghdad near the Iranian border for the last 5 months of the deployment; during the final surge that ended Operation Iraqi Freedom. After the 15 month deployment the unit then went back to normal operations in Vilseck Germany where David Michael Smith finished out his Active Duty Service.
